Busy Paws Pet Resort
Busy Paws Pet Resort
I am married, have three grown children, five grandchildren, and eight pets of my own. I am a licensed veterinary technician (LVT) who has worked in general practice and emergency. I moved to South Carolina from the Washington, DC area in 2012 to get away from the crazy, fast pace of that area and find a better quality of life.
Since 2012, I have volunteered with many rescues and shelters; helping with spay/neuter surgeries, fostering dogs and cats, transporting rescue animals, and assisting in the adoption process. My heart, however, is with the fosters. I love getting to know each animal individually, helping them heal, and watching the sparkle grow in their eyes as they learn to trust.
Starting Busy Paws has been a dream I have been working towards for a long time. Every time my husband and I would leave our pets in boarding, we would worry. Many times we discussed canceling a trip, just because it was so hard to leave them behind. I want to make that transition easier for you and your pet.
My husband retired from the military several years ago and now works from home. He is a die-hard football fan, a full-time dog dad, and my sanity when things get tough. Each time I bring home a new foster, he opens his arms and welcomes them without question. He helps give baths, feed, administer medications, soothe crying puppies in the middle of the night, and transport rescues. You will rarely see him without someone snuggled on his lap.
He often says his home is a big doghouse. I am very fortunate to have him in my life.
"Boo Boo" is a Hungarian Vizsla. She has been in our family since she was 8 weeks old. She considers it her job to make sure all the fosters understand the house rules.
We found "The Luckster" on the side of the road, as a puppy, filthy and covered in fleas. She is our "alpha girl". She considers squirrels public enemy No. 1 and spends most of her day keeping us safe from them.
"Toot Pop, Tootles, Rudie Toot, Rudles, Pop Tart, Meanie Pants". She was a rescue I tried very hard not to take home..... but who could resist that face?
"Ms. Jet" came to us as a rescue foster. She was skin and bones, with 13, 4-day-old puppies. The puppies all found great homes and Josie found her way into our hearts.
"Swoozie or Swoozle" also came to us as a rescue foster. She was about a year old and pregnant. Her life revolves around who she can convince to play with her next. She has a special way of getting the fosters to open up and feel safe.
Gypsy came to us from a family who was moving and could not take her. She is the only cat in our pack and makes it her mission to keep all the dogs in line.
"Big Boy" was a rescue. He had heartworms and an undiagnosed intestinal issue that made it impossible for him to keep weight on. It took a while, but he is now 100% healthy and wants nothing more than to be in your lap. All 80lbs of him.
"Ria" is our second Hungarian Vizsla. She joined our family in 2022 when she was 10 weeks. She is all zoomies and mischief. Her mission in life is to shred all the toilet paper in South Carolina. She's done a pretty good job so far.
